Before the seventies, Hollywood made no less that 12 movies about the Alamo; most of them portrayed the epic battle as one in which proud and noble Texans came together to stave off the evil and villainous Mexicans. The Alamo, directed by John Lee Hancock and staring Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton, presents a more modern version of the battle for a more modern audience. This hard and gritty rendition of the story attempts a much more balanced and historically accurate depiction. Fans of John Wayne will be disappointed, but fans of history will be pleasantly surprised. The Alamo does contain mature content.
