Can a deck of cards get kids asking historical questions?

We certainly hope so...

To that end, we have created a new generation of cards...

As with other card decks, you will find four suits of thirteen cards each. However, you will find no aces, jacks, diamonds, or spades. Instead of being organized around the traditional system of ace through king, this deck is organized around the dates of legendary battles fought by real people. The deck was initially designed for playing the traditional card game War. However, you may use the deck to play any of your favorite card games. Best of all, players might just learn a few fun facts about some important historical events along the way.

This particular card deck focuses on the Classical World, and I dedicate it to my card game loving niece...

Click here for a Word version of the deck.

Click here for an HTML version of the deck.

We will be adding other decks over the next few months, including sets for the Medieval World, the Reformation, the Age of Revolutions, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War.

In the meantime, have fun and, as always, happy historybusting....

The anniversary of Pearl Harbor is less than a month away...

A day that will live in infamy...

On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor. Perhaps you might want to share this moment in history with your kids by planning to view a great historybusting film together...

A marvelously accurate retelling of the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It may start a bit slow, but picks up nicely during the battle. By the end of the movie, you'll know all you need to know about the events of December 7, 1941. Members may access the historybuster e-book that accompanies this film by clicking on the selected links below.(PG)
